'Letaka' is a simplified spelling of the Setswana word lethlaka which is the name given to the Phragmites reeds that inhabit a large part of the Okavango Delta. As a result of their surname, co-founders Brent & Grant Reed were known as the 'Lethlaka Brothers' since their arrival in the delta and so settled on the name of Letaka Safaris for their company which would become renowned for it's excellent guiding standards. Letaka Safaris has also established itself as Botswana's foremost birding safari outfitter and the company now organises birdwatching tours throughout the Southern African and Zambia.
