Central Kalahari Game Reserve – Safaris in Central Kalahari

Central Kalahari Game Reserve  –  General Information:

Vast almost beyond comprehension, the Central Kalahari is home to a hardy population of wildlife that has made this thirstland their home. Characterised by immense grassland expanses and punctuated by valleys, ancient dune ranges and small tree islands, the Central Kalahari is an astonishing destination. During the rainy season (Dec-Apr) this arid environment turns green and wildflowers emerge in their millions. During the winter months the night skies of the Central Kalahari are unrivalled, the coal-black heavens sparkle with innumerable stars and the ghostly silence is palpable. Cheetah, Lion, Leopard And Brown Hyena are all present in the reserve, large herbivores include the magnificent Oryx, Springbok, Red Hartebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Burchell’s Zebra and Southern Giraffe.

Deception Valley & Passarge Valley

Most of the tourist activities within the Central Kalahari take place in the northern parts of the reserve and mobile safaris in particular favour the locations of Deception and Passarge Valley. There are also several lodges in the northern region, Kalahari Plains camp is operated by Wilderness Adventure Company and Tau Pan camp which is operated by Kwando Safaris.

Piper Pan and the southern Central Kalahari Game Reserve

Some 90km south of Deception Valley is the remote region of Piper Pan, this area is seldom visited due to it’s remote location but our Blooming Desert safari will often do a day trip from Deception Valley depending on the road conditions at the time.
